DEPARTMENT 03-Junior Goat Show

Rules and Regulations:

  1. Registration deadline is July 15. Complete entry forms online at: tiny.utk.edu/ACgoatshow
  2. There is an entry fee of $5 per goat payable to “Anderson County Fair.” Fees may be paid at check in.
  3. The show is open to youth in 4th – 12th grade who are Anderson County residents and/or attend school in Anderson County.
  4. Grade refers to exhibitor’s grade as of January 1 of the current year.
  5. The show will be Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 6 pm.
  6. Animals cannot arrive to fairgrounds prior to 2 pm and must be checked in by 4 pm.
  7. Scales for market goats open at 3 pm and close at 4 pm. Market goats will be weighed one time only.
  8. All goats must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Papers) dated within 90 days of the show. All animals are subject to inspection upon arrival at the show facilities and any animal with clinical signs of contagious disease will be sent home immediately.
  9. Appropriate Scrapie identification and/or tattoo will be required for all animals.
  10. No straw bedding permitted.
  11. All livestock must comply with the Tennessee State Livestock Health requirements for Fairs and Exhibits.
Division 1 – Skillathon
  1. In the skillathon contest, youth demonstrate knowledge about goats such as breeds, parts, terminology, diseases, conformation, etc.
  2. Contest occurs from 3 – 4 pm.
  3. Premiums: 1st – $15, 2nd – $10, 3rd – $5

Lot 1 – 9th-12th Grade
Lot 2 – 6th – 8th Grade
Lot 3 – 4th – 5th Grade

Division 2 – Showmanship
  1. Exhibitors are judged on their ability to show their goat.
  2. Premiums: 1st – $15, 2nd – $10, 3rd – $5

Lot 1 – 9th-12th Grade
Lot 2 – 6th – 8th Grade
Lot 3 – 4th – 5th Grade
Lot 4 – 3rd Grade & Under (participation ribbon only; this class will follow the market wether classes)

 

Division 3 – Dairy Breeds (Purebred and crossbred)
  1. Goats are showed by age as of the date of the show.
  2. Premiums: 1st – $15, 2nd – $10, 3rd – $5

Lot 1 – Junior Does (12 months & under)
Lot 2 – Yearling Does, dry, (13-24 months)
Lot 3 – Yearling Does, milking, (13-24 months)
Lot 4 – Senior Does (2-4 years)
Lot 5 – Aged Does (5 years and older)
Lot 6 – Junior Bucks (12 months & under)

Division 4 – Meat Breeds (Purebred and crossbred)
  1. Goats are showed by age as of the date of the show.
  2. Premiums: 1st – $15, 2nd – $10, 3rd – $5

Lot 1 – Junior Does (12 months & under)
Lot 2 – Yearling Does, dry, (13-24 months)
Lot 3 – Yearling Does, milking, (13-24 months)
Lot 4 – Senior Does (2-4 years)
Lot 5 – Aged Does (5 years and older)

Division 5 – Market Wethers
  1. All market goats are required to have a complete unbroken mouth and kid teeth.
  2. Market goats will be shown by weight. Class divisions determined by show officials.
  3. Premiums: 1st – $15, 2nd – $10, 3rd – $5

Lot 1 – Lightweight market goat class
Lot 2 – Middleweight market goat class
Lot 3 – Heavyweight market goat class

Division 6 – Costume Class
  1. Exhibitor and/or goat dressed in funny/themed/etc. costume.
  2. Premiums: 1st – $15, 2nd – $10, 3rd – $5

Lot 1 – 9th-12th Grade
Lot 2 – 6th – 8th Grade
Lot 3 – 4th – 5th Grade
Lot 4 – Little Buddies Costume (participation ribbon only)
